For my final project I want to explore portraiture in a conceptual and abstract application. I want to explore the emotion of the artistic process by photographing people in my life that I am close to. My photography so far has been focused on things and objects and it would be a good challenge for me to work with people. My work also has a tendency to be very literal, for some of my images I want to explore a conceptual and abstracted variation, pushing myself to conceive more than what comes naturally to me. I would like to have a series of both very informal work, taken spontaneously and another conceptual series that is planned and fabricated. The first set will be done in natural and fluorescent light, no use of a tripod where the second set will be in a wide range of light, bright natural light, indoor lighting and potentially night photography taken with high pressure sodium lights. Intimacy, Obsession, Fetish and Sensuality is going to drive my creative process. My inspiration comes from Elinor Carucci, who is very comfortable exploring the taboo and more sexual tendencies of people.
This project is going to push me out of my photographic and personal comfort zones. It will force me to see the world in ways that do not come naturally and I think this will help expand my creative horizons.
